Mandrillus sphinx
“No animals are harmed in the creation of these products”
The Mandrill (Mandrillus sphinx) is a large primate belonging to the family Cercopithecidae (Old World monkeys) and the genus Mandrillus. As the largest extant monkey species, it primarily inhabits the tropical rainforests of Central and West Africa. Its distinctive cranial features include prominently protruding brow ridges, sharply defined facial bone structure, robust maxillary and mandibular bones, deep canine alveoli supporting long, sharp canines, short and broad nasal bones, and high, projecting zygomatic arches that create a unique facial skeletal profile. The limb skeleton is powerfully built, with forelimbs slightly longer than hindlimbs; well-developed muscle attachment sites on the humerus and femur; thick, sturdy hand bones with flexible phalangeal joints; and robust tibia and fibula in the hindlimbs. The high degree of integration between bone and musculature supports climbing, running, and leaping locomotion.
This mandrill musculature model is crafted based on authentic anatomical data, with professional scientific guidance provided by Professor Sui Hongjin. Digital modeling was executed by digital artist Krystal Sae Eua.
Special thanks to the art / science guidance from Andrew Cawrse and Dr. Sui Hongjin.
